These over the top melodramas out of Mexico have been a favorite of mine for decades - including their accompanying fotonovelas. In more recent years they have more or less retained the scandalous nature of their stories, but the sleaze factor has been kicked up a few notches. Not to say they're better, but still worth a look.
Lucía (Nicole Mayer) returns home devastated after her honeymoon.
Her worried parents meet her at the airport. Only married a few days and already her husband is dead - drowned at sea.
At the pool Antonio (Radamés de Jesús) hears her story.
Everything was going so well on their honeymoon. Lucía was having fun with friends.
But then her husband (Armando Zamarripa) met Verónica (Nabila Alejandra Rojas) - who is her with her fiancee for her bachelorette party
He can't help himself; he has mad sex with Verónica.
Lucía hears them and storms in. She confronts Verónica, but her husband breaks up the fight.
And so, the husband goes off with Verónica. He is so intoxicated by her and is happy to leave Lucía forever.
You can hardly blame him.
But there's something up with Verónica; something's not on the up and up.
So, Lucía's story that her husband drowned at see was just a lie to hide the shame that her she was jilted just days after her wedding. Thankfully Antonio is there to help her.

Despite his terrible wig and nerdy disposition, Lucía agrees to have sex with Antonio.
Antonio and his friend (Juan Carlos Nava) go with Lucía to get legal help.
Believe it or not, Verónica has already dumped the husband and moved on to a bigger fish - Governor Eugenio Salazar (José "Pepe" Magaña)
The governor takes the bait and is putty in her hands.
Meanwhile, Lucía's husband is getting shot at by Verónica's fiancee. Apparently he's in a drug cartel. They almost kill him in a parking garage but the police arrive in the nick of time.
But just like with Lucía's husband - consequences be damned.
Salazar's mother (Maribel Fernández) and her rich and powerful friends are at the door. They have had enough of this floozy. She's beat up and thrown out of a truck in a burlap sack.
Lucía works with a detective (Héctor Soberón)
The detective turns out to be a total creep and forces himself on Lucía. He threatens to reveal the truth about her lie unless she has sex with him.
Things hit the fan in the last few minutes. Lucía's husband returns - and he kills the detective. Lucía and Antonio see him disposing of his body. They all mutually agree to keep up their lies and not tell anyone and go their separate ways.
REVIEW: Probably would have been better as a piece in an anthology rather than a full length movie, but still not too shabby. The sleaze is in full effect and things roll along at a nice pace, with delightful bits of trash littering the path along the way.
RATING: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ 6/10
