Deep in My Mind (2011)

From Günther Brandl who brought us one of the best satanic sleaze-fests I've ever seen, Unholy Ground (2016) - but who also brought us the godawful Necrophile Passion (2013). So let's see if Brandl can go 2-1 with this picture about an unassuming insurance salesman who may or may not be possessed by a serial killer.



Elliott Davis (Günther Brandl) is a traveling insurance salesman.  He reports his successes and failures on the road to Mr. Caulfield, who of course focuses on the failures. Elliott checks into the creepy Desdemona Hotel. An old dude named Lloyd gives him a cryptic warning


Things immediately get strange.  Elliott calls Mr. Caulfield who acts like he doesn't even know him.  What's going on?


At night Elliott has bizarre nightmares - often featuring an angel (Verena Nagel)


At the bar, a guy guy named Nathan (Martin Eherer) acts like Elliott should know him already.


At the bar he's joined by a woman, Regina (Carolina Rath)


Regina agrees to a one-night-stand up front.





They go to his room.


They have wild sex - but the whole time Elliott is having more weird and disturbing hallucinations.


When Elliott wakes up, he finds Regina dead in bed next to him.



He runs to the bathroom and finds she's actually still alive. Elliott doesn't understand why Regina claims they're in love, when he just met her.

Elliott becomes increasingly unhinged.  Elliott asks the clerk to change rooms.  Maybe that will solve his problems.Nope.  This is where the film absolutely goes off the rails.


Elliott has all manner of psychedelic hallucinations.  In a forest he sees a girl with an apple in her mouth (Stefanie Bachhuber).  What does it mean?  Who knows and who cares.


We do get an appearance from Brandl regular Katharina Buchberger as a naked sleeping beauty, whatever the that is supposed to mean.


Now we get some degree of explanation as Elliott comes upon serial killer Grzegorz Stajner (Vlasto Peyitch) who has killed a woman in the bath (Katharina Feurerer). Apparently, Grzegorz Stajner wasn't through killing and now has possessed Elliott so he can keep that train running.  Or at least that's the best I can gather.


It looks like maybe he really did kill Regina?


In the reflection he sees Grzegorz.
Elliott is ready to shoot Grzegorz, but does that mean he's killing himself?  Don't know, don't care. THE END

REVIEW: Started out fairly intriguing but then jumps the shark in a big way.  Some people may enjoy this surrealistic imagery with little-to-no explanation, but I prefer to have some shred of a clue what's going on. In other words, this film is living up its own ass, and needs to try to tell us a story of some kind.  Otherwise, it's just a vanity project.  You don't make something for audience to like, you make something you would like, in the hopes that others will appreciate it as well.  But having no help for the audience to gain access to your vision, makes one wonder what are you even doing this for.  Long winded way of saying, skip this garbage; I'm pretty upset I wasted the time I did watching it - don't make the same mistake.
