Sex. Love and Black Magic (2004)

(Original Title: Секс, любовь и черная магия) A Russian film about a guy who makes the mistake of enlisting the services of a gypsy.  His life spirals out of control, and he spends most of his days in a satanic netherworld.

Max (Ivan Petrov) calls his girlfriend Kitty to meet for a date. But checking his watch, Kitty is hours late.  It becomes clear she's not going to show.

Max mopes over to a park bench where a gypsy introduces herself.

Her name is Dina Voodoo (Galina Zdorenko).

She pulls a business card from her stocking. It reads: "The High Priestess of Black Magic - Dina Voodoo, Telephone 666-69-69"

Checking on Kitty, since she never showed - Max finds another man in her apartment.

Max finds Kitty (Yulia Shopyreva) in bed naked.

She wakes up and sees Max.  She curls up, humilated and ashamed.

Max drowns his sorrows in vodka.

Max is plunged into a netherworld with the gypsy Dina Voodoo. She plays his hand.  How will Max fare? Fate shall be the judge.

Max finds himself in a forest with Dina

Dina doesn't at all seem like the mysterious gypsy when he first met her.

Dina surprises Max by taking off her clothes.

She goes into the water and disappears.  Max can't find her anywhere. Was this all just a dream?

Max is drawn to Dina's business card - "High Priestess of Black Magic". Calling upon Dina summons her presence from hell. She tells Max to drink this potion.

When Max awakens, Dina is above him naked.

They have sex.  But Max wakes up wondering if this even happened.

Max wakes up in a doctor's care. He's falling apart.

Before he can recover, Dina shows up at his door.

Again, she offers him a potion. Against his better judgement, Max drinks it down.

He's transported back to the underworld where Dina sits before him.

Max is shocked to find Kitty (Yulia Shopyreva) tied to the bed naked.

Dina cooly recommends Max punish Kitty for her cheating on him.

Tentative at first, Max soon gets into whipping Kitty.

Dina insists he go farther in dealing out punishment to Kitty.

Kitty begs for mercy - but mercy isn't on the menu in hell.  Max continues to whip her.

Fulfilling her command, Max returns to Dina. Dina spreads her legs for Max

But she has one more command.  She pulls out a knife - Max needs to kill Kitty.

And so he does.

Kitty is dead.

Max wakes up and gets a frantic call from Kitty.

Kitty comes over - she has disturbing information for Max.

Kitty undresses... She has whip marks all over her. Even worse, she has what appears to be a stab wound... right where Max delivered the fatal blow.

Kitty subtly gestures Max to take her from behind.

It's a miracle - her wounds are healed

Meanwhile, back in the underworld - Dina summons Max and Kitty. They appear before her, unconscious on her altar/bed.

Sex ensues and Dina watches and gets aroused.

Boom!  Back to reality. Kitty shows up for the date at the very start of this movie.

Was it all a dream? Was there ever a satanic gypsy?  As Max and Kitty walk away, we see the calling card of the High Priestess of Black Magic. THE END

REVIEW: This was way better than I expected.  Satansploitation basically died in the early eighties, but this had that super dark and wicked vibe we've missed all these years. Director Armen Oganezov conjures up some killer occult mojo alongside super sexy (and often twisted and macabre) erotica. What a long dark and sleazy trip this movie was; so glad to have come upon this obscure Russian gem.

RATING: ★★★★★★★★☆☆ 8/10
