Can It Be Love (1992)

Two guys travel to Fort Lauderdale to get with the "Luscious Ladies of Delta Pi".  Instead they get wrapped up in a secret scheme involving an inheritance.

Sex Files: Alien Erotica (1998)

Boomers and Gen Xer's (like myself) pine for the days when exploitation films were abundant and filling the marquees of drive-ins, and also the midnight features on the local TV networks.  But we don't think much about those few years when late-night cable (namely Cinemax) provided a great source of sleazy camp and genre trash (and treasures).  There are a ton of good films from this period; while most were just erotic thrillers (which could be quite good), but many were genre flicks and deserve to be rediscovered.

ESP: Extra Sexual Perception (1998)

These late-night cable/straight to DVD erotica that came out in the nineties and early 2000s is a mixed bag, but it's well worth digging through.  Despite the generic covers and cheesy titles, they are often not what you'd expect.  This one involves a photographer who finds his way to success using a super power he gained by touching a magical artifact.

Hollywood Sins (2000)

A Hollywood agent gets framed for beating up an actress. Starring Kim Sill and Mia Zottoli.

Sin in the City (2001)

A real estate agent gets charged with sexual harassment, and then gets involved with a call girl.  Featuring Kim Sill and Amber Newman.

Droid Gunner (1995)

Marc Singer plays the Harrison Ford character in Blade Runner, tracking down Pleasure Droids in this Fred Olen Ray sci-fi schlockfest.

Butterscotch: Power Flower (1997)

There was a series of Italian erotic comics by Milo Manara which somehow found their way to late-night cable adaptations on Skinamax; then, released as individual films on DVD. The comics (fumetti) tell of a substance which turns a guy invisible and the potion smells like butterscotch. Other films in the series:  The Erotic Misadventures of the Invisible Man (2003) and Butterscotch: Mission Invisible (1997).

Behind Bedroom Doors (2003)

Chelsea Blue plays a new girl in town who gathers dirt on her neighbors to blackmail them.

Lethal Target (1999)

A prisoner is given a mission to go aboard a spaceship where they are conducting unauthorized experiments.

The Big Hustle (1999)

Some stellar DVD artwork here, with a mighty sunburst on his neck.  Erotic Thrillers already fashion themselves after old crime noir films; this one comes complete with narration that sounds like Raymond Chandler.

Killer Sex Queens from Cyberspace (1998)

A software corporation creates a virtual warrior along with virtual sex objects; the two forces collide as Virtual Cassandra (Lorissa McComas) reeks havoc upon Cincinnati.

Lap Dancing (1995)

A naive and innocent girl from Kansas goes to Hollywood to become an actress.  After working as a stripper, she develops the grit to make it in the acting business. Featuring Larissa McComas and Tane McClure.

Sexual Intrigue (2000)

Pay no mind to this DVD cover; it has nothing whatsoever to do with anything.  This erotic thriller, featuring both Kim Sill and Kira Reed is among the best out there.  An illustration of why this genre was popular for so long; for every ten duds, there was a banger like this.

Hidden Passion (2000)

A mobster's wife, played by Kim Sill, hatches a plan to steal his money right under his nose, with the help of an old flame.

Sexual Outlaws (1994)

Late-night cable erotica starring Elizabeth Sandifer.  A mute hobo is the prime suspect for the death of a prostitute - but did he really do it?

Naked and Nasty (2006)

Quite possibly the worst new age erotica film covered on VZ1, and that's saying something.  This is basically a "clip show" of past Cinemax/late-night cable softcore films.

The Vampire's Seduction (1998)

Dracula's daughter, Dracoola, returns and she wants virgins; so, she enlists Van Helsing's idiot descendant to retrieve them.  Starring Tina Krause with a cameo from Debbie Rochon.

Venus Flytrap (1987)

A late eighties version of the House at the Edge of the Park (1980) where ne'er-do-wells crash a yuppie party.  As you'll see, the perspective had changed quite a bit by the end of the 'me decade'.

Autostop-Lustreport (1974)

Although the title makes it sound like another Schulmädchen-Report, it's more in line with the popular blue-collar Laß jucken, Kumpel series.  A couple of truck drivers wind up in all manner of comical sexual situations.

Death Smiles on a Murderer (1973)

(Original Title: La morte ha sorriso all'assassino) A Joe D'Amato film featuring Klaus Kinski with lots of Edgar Allen Poe nods and story snippets.

Tonight for Sure (1962)

Notable as an early film by Francis Ford Coppola.  The film is about a couple guys who want to blow up a burlesque club to stop indecency.

Bumpkin Soup (1985)

(Original Title: Do-re-mi-fa-musume no chi wa sawagu) A Japanese film that tries very hard to be like Goddard or some surrealist art house picture.

Macabre (1980)

Supposedly inspired by a true story which took place in New Orleans, Lamberto Bava directs this aptly titled film.

Kipling's Women (1961)

One of the first nudie films shown in theaters.  It purports to be "A Picturization of Rudyard Kipling's Immortal Poem---The Ladies."

Forbidden (2001)

This seems like a generic softcore throwaway, but since it's a  Robert Kubilos film, we have to check it out.

Orloff Against the Invisible Man (1970)

The "invisible man" is actually an "invisible gorilla", but we won't get technical about it.  What's shocking is that this is not a Jesús Franco film, when it appears exactly like one.  Indeed, it's Pierre Chevalier apparently doing his best Jesús Franco impression.

The Wall of Flesh (1968)

A typical Joe Sarno flick: a very limited cast, written like a stage play, with lots of nudity and a central theme relating to sex.

Schizophreniac: The Whore Mangler (1997)

A no-budget SOV gorefest.  This is what a film looks like on bath salts.  It is out of control - but not in a good way.  In fact, in a really, really bad way.

Young Lady Detectives: Heart Beat! (1987)

(Original Title: Ojôsan tantei Tokimeki renpatsu!,  女侦探连发 お嬢さん探偵 ときめき連発!) Two ladies in college open a detective agency and their first case involves a missing girl. Starring Michiko Nishiwaki who would later do stunts in Kill Bill (1&2), Rush Hour 2, True Detective and Charlie's Angels

Bedside Highway (1972)

(Original Title: Motorvej på sengekanten) It's been a while since we've done a Danish sex comedy, so about time for another.  This one is about a highway planned to go through a small village, and the local residents who plot against it.

The Underground Comedy Movie (1999)

Sketch comedy film which is very proud of itself for being irreverent.  Featuring a cameo from Slash.

Blood Delirium (1988)

(Original Title: Delirio di sangue) An Italian film in the vein of Color Me Blood Red (1965) where an artist uses the blood of his victims as paint. Starring Danger: Diabolik, John Phillip Law.

Crazy Wild and Crazy (1964)

An early Barry Mahon flick which is really nothing but a bunch of poorly shot nudist clips under the pretense of being a "how to" film. [See the Nudist Flicks page for a list of nudism films covered on VZ1]

Roxanna (2002)

A remake of Millard's Roxanna (1970) from Seduction Cinema starring Misty Mundae and Darian Caine.

Indian Raid, Indian Made (1969)

A secret agent is sent to bust up a moonshine ring in the backwoods.  He's subsequently shagging every redneck gal and squaw in the area.

Shanty Tramp (1967)

A white trash floozy goes for a night on the town, and all hell breaks loose. A B&W drive-in sleazefest which ends up being pretty damn compelling and is about as good as anything in this vein of sixties exploitation film.

Striking Resemblance (1997)

A female detective gets a little too close to the prime suspect in a murder.  If this plot sounds familiar it's because pretty much every single erotic thriller on late-night cable in the nineties had this story.

Pleasure Palace (1973)

A Canadian film about a sleazy photography studio, and a young couple who try to blackmail a rich guy.

Escape from Pleasure Planet (2016)

Erika Jordan was in a number of these sci-fi softcore films a few years ago, including Dirty Blondes from Beyond (2012), Stacked Racks from Mars (2014), and Vixens from Venus (2016), all by different directors.

The Bushwhacker (1968)

Supposedly deemed too explicit to show at drive-ins in '68, so wasn't released until a few years later.  I'm not so sure I buy that, as they could've just removed a few scenes.  It's a bit too mean spirited to be considered a "nudie cutie", but the lounge music, miniskirts and bubbly campiness does seem at times something like an old Russ Meyer or Doris Wishman. The "plot" involves four survivors of a plane crash on the run from a desert hillbilly.

Smoke and Flesh (1968)

Joseph Mangine was mainly a cinematographer; he only directed two films - this and Neon Maniacs almost twenty years later.  This film is a predecessor for a ton of films in the seventies with a similar story: an uppity gathering gets crashed by violent white trash/hippies. Examples include The Love Thrill Murders and The Wild Riders from 1971.  By 1980, the trope was still alive, exploiting the fear of the lower classes, in House on the Edge of the Park.

Passion in Hot Hollows (1969)

A Sarno flick about a woman who returns to a small town and shakes things up sexually.  As with almost all Sarno pictures, it feels like it could be a stage play, and it's filmed with a sense of artistry over just straight-ahead exploitation.

Fly Now, Pay Later (1969)

A stewardess is abducted and used in a sex slavery ring in Morocco.  Featuring Cherie Winters who appeared in her fair share of obscure sixties sleaze.
