The criticism I've seen of this film is that it's like a Mexican soap opera but with nudity. Well, if you happen to love both Mexican soap operas and nudity, well that's not a criticism that's high praise.
Brothers Enrique (Armando Araiza) and Antonio (Tomás Goros) are at the bedside of their dying father.
When the will is revealed, Enrique is outraged that the family business goes to Antonio and he gets zilch.
Enrique spirals out of control, drinking himself to death and hanging out with loose women.
Tania tries to get Toni aroused, but he's too invested in his new role as head of the business.
Tania strips down to nothing, but Toni hardly seems to notice.
Tania is offended and walks away rejected.
The next morning Enrique is in bed with the two ladies he picked up last night - a brunette (Salma Monroy) and blonde (Daniela Morales).
There's a knock at the door and it snaps Enrique back into the land of the living.
Enrique sneaks out of bed, trying not to wake up the girls.
The knock at the door was Toni - who is reaching out to him out of good will to let him be a part of the family business.
Enrique flashes back to when he was first introduced to Tania by Toni. The good old days.
It turns out that Enrique isn't exactly cut out for this line of work, and is a moronic failure behind a desk. I can't help but think of Arrested Development: Antonio is Michael Bluth, Enrique is Gob Bluth.
Tania gets herself gussied up for Toni's arrival home.
But she's disappointed to find that, once again, he can't make it due to demands of the family business.
Tania hears Enrique having sex and fondles herself listening to the lovemaking.
Tania continues to try to get a rise out of Toni, but it's no use.
Tania is once again upset that Toni has stood her up.
She gets drunk with Enrique.
You knew where this was headed.
Enrique tries to keep it together at work, but he's starting to fall apart.
Enrique introduces Tania to drugs.
He blows it up her nose.
Tania convulses and then leaps out of bed.
At first it's too much - but she quickly is hooked.
Toni works late with Maria - but still no romance between the two.
Toni comes home to find Enrique with his wife. He beats the shit out of him then kicks Enrique out.
Little does Toni know, Tania is now a full blown drug addict.
Salma comes to collect the drug money.
Enrique and Tania happily make the exchange then head up to the hotel room.
Back at home, Tania is doing rails all day long.
She meets Salma again for more drugs.
Is it just me or does Agostina del Mar have a Jennifer Jason Leigh vibe?
Toni has Tania watched by his men day and night who won't let her out of their sight. She happily tells them she's going to get a manicure - but is really planning to make an escape.
Once inside the hair and nail salon, Tania sneaks away from Toni's men.
She sneaks away to be with Enrique and do drugs.
There's an attempt on Toni's life by a couple of Don Antonio's goons.
Tania confronts Salma in a diner.
Salma tells Tania to meet her in the bathroom.
Where she shoots and kills her!
We knew it was coming. Toni and Maria finally get romantically involved.
A really nice sex scene from Carolina Torres
Salma is arrested for Tania's murder.

REVIEW: The reviews are correct - this is indeed just a Mexican soap with nudity. And that my friends is a good thing. The sex and skin exceeds expectations - with Agostina del Mar basically stark naked in every scene she's in. But you also have to love the trademarks of telenovelas which are all here: the exaggerated plots of love and betrayal, the over the top acting, the stereotypical characters, etc. While it may not be something I'd ever re-watch, it definitely provides entertainment while it lasts. Not everything needs to be Chateaubriand; sometimes a Big Mac is good too.
Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThey probably should have switched brothers as the 'good' brother looks seedier.
The scene where Enrique gets poor Tania hooked is very funny, as these scenes often are.
Something else that amused me is how both guys wore that generic underwear they probably hand out to actors for these moments rather than anything that made sense for the characters (I'm guessing Enrique would have never worn any).
