(Original title: Papaya dei Caraibi) A group of geologists endeavors to relocate a indigenous cannibal community from an island for the purpose of conducting atomic research and building a nuclear reactor. However, the cannibals' female leader cunningly eliminates them individually through seduction.
Papaya (Melissa Chimenti) comes ashore as if summoned by the island from the sea.
Her accomplices burn the hut down with Dean inside
Sara (Sirpa Lane) is a journalist who regularly vacations on this island. She's enjoying a cock fight (!)
Vincent (Maurice Poli) is another engineer who is working toward building a nuclear reactor on the island.
After the cockfight, Vincent and Sara take a shower together
Sara is horrified to discover Dean's charred remains
She speaks with the police inspector
Vincent and Sara pick up Papaya who is hitchhiking
She's brought to Ramon and Manuel - the two men who burned the hut down.
Vincent shows Sara the poor village where they plan to build the nuclear power plant.
They come upon the "Celebration of the Red Stone"
Vincent and Sara are drugged and stripped
They wake up the next morning with no memory of what happened, nor where they even are.
Papaya helps them with the bath
Sara returns to her room and starts to masturbate
But Ramon and Manuel kidnap her
Sara escapes and finds Vincent and begs him to leave. She knows the villagers are plotting to kill all the engineers to prevent the nuclear plant from being built. However, Vincent is too much under the spell of Papaya to listen.
Vincent is ultimately murdered by Papaya, just like Dean was.
Sara randomly has sex with a villager and is attacked by Papaya.
Her lover is able to stop Papaya and Sara scolds her - saying that she supports her cause, but violence is not the answer
Later, Papaya once again catches Sara having sex with the villager
She waits until he's gone, then creeps up on Sara while she sleeps
The two make love
Sara feels as if she's on the beach with Papaya
The villager returns and tells Papaya to get lost
Later, Sara meets with the police inspector and James Archibald, another nuclear engineer. She seems totally unaffected by all this, and back to normal.
But on the road, Sara urges James to pick up Papaya who is hitchhiking. This suggests that Sara is now in league with Papaya and setting James up for the same fate as Dean and Vincent. THE END
Not really a cannibal movie, and I'm sure fans Cannibal Holocaust are not going to find much in common with those types of films. Sirpa Lane spends a lot of time naked, so it's got that going for it. Also, the setting is pretty cool - with the abandoned villages and tropical locale. D'Amato does a good job of transporting you to the exotic land... but overall the story tends to be pretty weak.
★★★★★★☆☆☆☆6/10
