Witchcraft III: The Kiss of Death (1991)

I swear the main reason these Witchcraft movies were such a hit at the video store was simply due to their lurid cover art. If you're having trouble finding a tape to go home with, the box art sure was tempting. You could choose a quality Merchant-Ivory production, or the one with a nude chick on the cover... I think we both know the right choice in this situation.

RATING: ★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ 2/10

REVIEW: [10/03/20] Good grief. What was the point of this? No gore, no nudity (aside from a look at Lisa Toothman's boobs), no nothing - aside from an awful story. Wouldn't even pass for an episode of Tales from the Crypt or Silk Stalkings. But, it has that lurid VHS box and thereby a big hit at the video store. [3/10]

SECOND SPIN: [12/17/24] Yeesh, I hated this even more the second go around. Just the fact that the entire damn movie is so dark that what's going on is often imperceptible is bad enough. But then add a painfully boring and lame story then remove all trace of sleaze (minus the aforementioned boobs of Toothman - which are quite nice), and you have yourself a real stinker. And it's not just bad - it is utterly pointless. Like this film objectively has no reason to exist. When do these Witchcraft movies start getting good?

SYNOPSIS

Louis (Domonic Luciana) is a demonic night club owner. He meets Marlena (Alexa Jago) at the bar. He does some sort of soul-sucking with her face. He then carries her to dispose of her in a cardboard box... although it's hard to tell. Most of this movie is too damn dark to tell what's going on. Louis' woman is Roxy (Leana Hall) who also seems to be some kind of demon. Remember dumb old William from the last movie? Well, he's now an adult, and is a defense attorney. He's currently representing Ruben Carter (Ahmad Reese), who is clearly innocent, framed for rape-murder. Vivian Hill (Nicole Lauren) is the prosecutor. Charlotte (Lisa Toothman) is Spanner's girlfriend.

At the bar, Spanner meets Anna (Ally Downs). Anna's jealous boyfriend causes a scene - and Louis enters the picture. Louis introduces himself to Spanner, and subsequently kills Anna later that night. Spanner gets upset when he finds that Charlotte is wearing one of his occult pendants. Louis makes sly advances toward Charlotte. Vivian continues to be a bitch, wanting to put away the innocent man. Luis and Roxy run over Vivian right in front of Spanner. Spanner delivers the good news to the Carter family that he's been declared innocent. As a token of appreciation on behalf of the Carters, Rev. Jondular (William Lewis Baker), a witch doctor, gives Spanner a magic staff.

Spanner comes home and catches Louis with Charlotte. They split up. Spanner has a nightmare, seeing Charlotte in the shower with Louis. Charlotte finds Luis and Roxy humping. Louis kills Roxy then tries to rape Charlotte. Spanner shows up and finds Charlotte unconscious. He battles Louis, using the witch doctor's staff to burn the demon. Charlotte tries to assist and is knocked out. But Spanner is able to deal the death blow with the staff. Spanner revives Charlotte and the couple is back in love. THE END
