Hellroller (1992)

Not only does Hellroller offer a tantalizingly insane concept of a wheelchair bound psycho, but it also features some of the big names in B-movies of the day: Michelle Bauer, Ruth Collins, Mary Woronov, and Hyapatia Lee.  Not bad for a shot-on-video grade-Z straight-to-VHS production.  It's not for nothing that this has gained a somewhat cult status among fans of the genre.  Let's have a look...

Wheelchair-bound Eugene (Ron Litman) is reduced to foraging for food in dumpsters.  He's assisted by his aunt (Mary Woronov).  Eugene thinks she's his mother... and so the time arrives for her to tell him the truth of his origins...

We travel back in time to see his mother (Ruth Collins) carrying her healthy baby Eugene in her arms.

She's attacked by homicidal Siamese twins.  She's killed and her baby is forever unable to walk.

Eugene is horrified by the story and vows to kill any "normal" that fucks with him ever again.  "Normal" meaning those who walk on two legs.

Eugene joins forces with a mentally handicapped guy named Donald (Gary J. Levinson, the film's director).

The movie is periodically interrupted by clips from the news - often covering serial killers.   I suppose this serves as comic relief, but it's not funny at all.

Next, we find a young lady (Michelle Bauer) in her apartment.

She turns on some music, takes her dress off and dances her little heart out.

Then it's bath time.

The film devotes a lot of time watching her bathe - and I certainly wasn't complaining.  It's a bubble bath, obscuring any full frontal nudity.

Eugene and Donald break into her apartment.

Eugene and Donald battle over what to do with the girl.

The girl jumps on and helps Eugene strangle Donald to death.

Eugene rewards her by brutally murdering her.  To get a look at the gore (and Bauer) I pasted together the screen shots as the camera panned up her body.

Next we meet another girl dancing seductively in her apartment - played by Hyapatia Lee.

Instead of taking an after-dance bath, she takes a shower.

Of course, Eugene is there to make this "Normal" pay for her two legs.

Eugene meets a couple of girls beating up a guy for money.  Bunny (Tammara Souza) and Liz (Elizabeth Kaitan) plan to do the same to him.

We ran into Kaitan in Slave Girls Beyond Infinity; she has been in a ton of great genre films including Friday the 13th Part VII, Dr. Alien, Assault of the Killer Bimbos, and Silent Night Deadly Night 2.  Souza was also in the Killer Bimbos movie as well as an episode of Freddy's Nightmares and Ellen.

Ellen sends a wood spike through both of the girls.

Eugene kills another woman (Lucia Mortato) by ironing her to death. This might've been campy and fun had I been able to tell what the hell is going on.  Dear lord this is filmed so incredibly bad.

Eugene gets a secret formula from a mad scientist to contaminate drinking water supplies.  It causes the imbiber to become crippled like himself.  The film ends with the city being ravaged by the effects of his water; but ultimately Eugene is himself killed by hobos.  THE END

I can't comprehend how something this shitty had so many names from the B-movie horror industry in it.  I guess they all needed to pay rent, and maybe Gary J. Levinson had cash to spare.  Who knows.  What I do know is that this movie sucks.

I've read plenty of reviews praising this for its over-the-top camp and uniqueness.  Nope.  Unless Michelle Bauer or Hyapatia Lee were onscreen, this movie was beyond boring.
