Castle of De Sade (1982)

 

(Original Title: O Castelo das Taras) An extraordinarily sleazy film about a pastor who becomes possessed by the Marquis De Sade and kills students staying at an abandoned castle.

A professor and three students get off a train and walk to an abandoned castle.

Professor Lucy (Esmeralda Barros) has brought her three students here for a  suitable environment for research into parapsychology and occult sciences.

Doria (Silvana Alves) is a shy and reserved student

Students Mirna (Ely Silva) and Magda (Margareth Souto) are more gregarious and often laugh at Doria.

On the hike to the castle, Mirna and Magda stop to bathe in a stream

Even Doria jumps in.

Magda seems to be getting off on the waterfall

Mirna sits next to Professor Lucy on the coach ride to the castle - but the driver will only take them so far, wary of the castle's evil reputation.

Once in the castle, Magda takes a bath.

Mirna joins her.

Mirna lathers up Magda's bush.

Professor Lucy tells the three girls the story of Marquis De Sade

In her story, a woman (Tyhana Perckle) is a victim of the Marquis De Sade and his deviant sexual appetite.

Well, that was a charming story.  Mirna and Magda decide to skinny dip on the castle grounds.

Damn, this movie is not even a quarter through and these two have bathed three times!

Magda does love a good waterfall

Doria joins, but gets spooked by the ominous vibe evoked by the castle

We meet Professor Eduardo (Dorival Coutinho) who is also staying at the castle.  He's actually a protestant evangelical pastor.

He is in love with a local rancher's daughter, Miriam (Hilda Ferracini)

That evening, Doria is awaken from her sleep

She is compelled by some unseen force (the spirit of Marquis De Sade) to go to the pastor's room and show him her bush.

Another A-Frame

Eduardo tries to resist the temptation, but the spirit of Marquis De Sade enters him, and he pounds away at Doria.  (We'll later find out that he kills her afterward)

Eduardo meets with Miriam - if she only knew what he did last night.

Magda has become overwhelmed by the Marquis De Sade's spirit and is writhing in uncontrollable ecstacy. 

Once again, Eduardo tries resist by the Marquis De Sade takes over his soul.

He pulls off Magda's panties and goes to work.

Magda is horrified ot look up and see Doria dead, hanging from the rafters

Magda snaps out of her orgiastic revelry and screams for her life.  Eduardo kills her with a scythe.

Well, what do we have here?  Professor Lucy is actually behind all this. Marquis De Sade was summoned by her evil rituals.

Lucy stands before Eduardo and pulls off her wig - revealing she's bald.

Wow, this was the last film Esmeralda Barros acted in, and she provides full frontal nudity.

Lucy has sex with Eduardo

What about Mirna?  She's under the spell of the Marquis De Sade and hypnotically walking to Eduardo and Lucy.

She finally arrives and Lucy puts her on an altar of sorts

Mirna is ready to be mounted by Eduardo

But the villagers have gotten wind of this evilness, and are assembling outside.  Miriam's father (Darcy Silva) leads the angry mob.

Lucy is chased outside and ultimately killed

In the final scene, Miriam looks on in horror with her father as Eduardo is compelled to fall from the top of the castle tower to his death. THE END

Man, what a wild ride.  I really wish I had a better copy of this - or if there were a restored version out there.  This sleazy nightmare demands more pixels. On the downside, while the nudity is on from the jump, the horror elements don't fall into place until over the halfway mark.  So, aside from nudity not much is going on until the point where Eduardo gets possessed with Doria.  But it's worth the wait.
