(Original Title: Diario segreto da un carcere femminile) An Italian Women In Prison (WIP) flick.
The movie begins with a five minute explanation of what happened; if you miss this part you'll be lost the whole movie. I don't know why they didn't just let this business play out, rather than a mile-a-minute narrator's exposition. The abridged version: a girl has a car accident, the cops find drugs in her possession, these drugs were planted there unbeknownst to her, and now she's in prison.
Daniela Vinci (Jenny Tamburi) is the poor girl falsely accused.
Gerda (Olga Bisera) the Chief Matron performs a full cavity search.
Yikes. You'd think this sleazy and troubling start would be a sign of things to come; however, the film does settle down and isn't nearly as graphic as the intro.
Lily Musumeci (Anita Strindberg) wants to get to the bottom of what happened. She works for Interpol. (Note that the dubbed version calls her "Hilda")
Like so many WIP films, the woman gets admitted into the prison in order to solve the mystery.
Meanwhile, on the outside, there's a war over what happened to the missing heroine (that was in Daniela's car). This provides a venue for a pretty awesome car chase.
Musumeci, father of Lily and lover of Daniela, is having a helluva time.
While I appreciate them branching the story out beyond the walls of the prison, these parts are really boring (except for the awesome car chases).
So, let's meet the prisoners.
Paola Senatore plays the bitch of Mammasantissima (Eva Czemerys). Senatore got to be a pretty well known name, and we've covered her a good bit on VZ1. She actually doesn't say a single word this entire film; rather, she's just quiet and subservient.
Mammasantissima and Paola Senatore make love
Lily asleep, not realizing she's being watched by Gerda.
Gerda (Olga Bisera) gets horny, so goes into Daniela's cell and takes advantage of her.
The obligatory shower scene with Maria (Cristina Gaioni), the weird girl, refusing to get naked. Loredana Mongardini is the girl on the left.
Maria is teased.
Lily has to pretend she didn't know Daniela; they communicate on the down low.
There are a couple cat fights (a requirement of any WIP film worth its salt)
Gerda puts a stop to the brawl.
Napolitana (Valeria Fabrizi) is hungry for sex; she's gotta have it.
So, Napolitana feigns illness and goes to the doctor.
When the doc turns around, this is what he sees. Napolitana finally gets the sex she craves.
Another shower scene. The blonde on the right is none other than Margaret Rose Keil. The girl on the left is Gabriella Giorgelli, who I think is the girl that winds up dead....
The prisoners are lined up and questioned about the murder.
Daniela starts to freak the fuck out from being in isolation.
Daniela is carried to the medical ward.
Margaret Rose Keil on the left, and the rest hear Daniela's cries.
Lily,Napolitana, and Mammasantissima are among the crowd of prisoners standing in unison against the prison warden.
Napolitana rips her uniform off, and the guards unleash the hoses.
Lily is finally able to speak directly with Daniela and get the information she needs recorded on tape.
With the evidence in hand, Lily is driven off the road by the heroine dealers, to a spectacular death.
You can tell Rino Di Silvestro actually is trying to make a good movie here. Sure it's chock full of sleaze, but there's a dense backstory, and at least the attempt to develop characters. A valiant effort, but I think it doesn't quite achieve its aims, resulting in a rather forgettable fail.
