Night of the Werewolf (1981)

Of the many Waldemar Daninsky werewolf movies, this was Naschy's fave.  I love how Naschy would kick it old school and have a second monster (ex. Jekyll and Hyde, vampires, etc.).  In this film, it's an undead Elixabeth Bathory.

Paul Naschy as Waldemar Daninsky - he's condemned for being a werewolf and is executed along with Countess Bathory

Rome 1981.  Karen (Azucena Hernández) and Barbara (Pilar Alcón) tell their boyfriends they are going to the grave of Elisabeth Bathory.  The guys demean them and laugh that girls can be researchers.

I love how the camera just circles around using Pilar Alcón's butt as its center.

Erika (Silvia Aguilar) tells the  professor (Narciso Ibáñez Menta) about the discovery of Bathory's grave.

Possessed by Bathory, Erika kills the professor.

Naschy Jesus hangs on the wall.

Karen, Barbara and Erika are now in Hungary.

Barely there five minutes and they are attacked; this dude tries to rip open Erika's blouse, but the men are killed by arrows by a mysterious savior.

 They arrive at the castle.

Waldemar Daninsky is waiting for them, posing like a badass.

Erika and Barbara discuss things.  Silvia Aguilar gets topless.

Barbara thinks it's all a joke; Erika begs to differ.

A soon-to-be-dead couple makes out in the stable.  The girl is played by Alexia Loreto who was amazing in Brujas mágicas (1981)

  Paul Naschy as the werewolf.

The man's bullets have no effect.

The werewolf kills the guy, then bites the girl and carries her off.

This is what's represented on the movie poster.

This will make the ninth movie where Naschy transforms into a werewolf.

Karen comes face to face with the werewolf.

Erika hypnotizes Barbara.

Barbara (Pilar Alcón) is hung upside down over the sarcophagus of Bathory.

Erika cuts Barbara's throat.  The blood landing on the coffin causes Bathory to resurrect.

Countess Elisabeth Bathory (Julia Saly).  Saly provided that great victim scene in Night of the Seagulls (1975).

The coolest shit you'll ever see.  Bathory summons a zombie which breaks through the sarcophagus.

Both Erika and Barbara are now vampires.

Tell me this movie doesn't look amazing.  I dare you.

Bathory gets Karen and takes her back to the crypt.

Waldemar finds her and carries her to a spot like six feet away for some reason.

Waldemar, now turned into the werewolf, battles Erika and Bathory, killing them both.

Finally, the werewolf attacks Karen, and she stabs it with a silver cross. THE END

Looks amazing, and Naschy just pulls out all the stops. I would disagree with Naschy that it's the best of his werewolf films, but still a damn fun ride.

Double Feature: It'd be too easy to just pair this with another Naschy werewolf picture.  I'd go with the werewolf porno/Michael Jackson "Thriller" send-up, Driller (1985).

★★★★★★☆
