Un permiso para ligar (1980)



(AKA A Permit To Flirt)  Enrique Guevara's What A Mess They Got Me Into! (1980) was so awesome, I thought it was worth checking some of his other work. Very much like a Lemon Popsicle movie, it features a trio of guys (one goofball and two interchangeable studs) in search of getting laid.

REVIEW: As sex comedies go, this was a lot of fun; chock full of nude Spanish women, and brimming with silly energy. If this was made in the States and starred a few moderately famous actors/actresses, this would've become a sex comedy classic.

SYNOPSIS

The title song is like ear cancer. It sounds like a kid's song; totally doesn't fit this sleazy movie at all.
Happy girl, happy boy
Happy people all around
Full of love, full of joy
And they make a happy sound...

Three sailors are on shore leave: Juanjo (Carles Velat), Miguel (Juan Alejandro) and Toni (Jorge Termes). They travel to meet Miguel's friend Manolo (Ricard Reguant) who lives in El Ferrol (La Coruña). They're on a fifteen day permit, so they waste no time making the most of it. They join Manolo's group on the beach. Manolo rubs suntan lotion on his soon-to-be mother-in-law, Doña Concha (Elisenda Ribas). Toni talks with Elisa (Sonia Blanca), but he's more interested in her friend, Sonia (who we'll meet in moment). Marita (Jazmine Venturini) strolls by topless. Manolo's fiance María (Esther Ferrer) doesn't appreciate Juanjo's ogling over Marita, especially his obvious raging hard-on. Juanjo has to sit in the water a while to cool down his boner. The last member of this group is Sonia (Vicky Palma), Elisa's free-spirited friend. Sonia takes off her towel, revealing she's topless underneath. Toni can't stop staring. Doña Concha doesn't approve, but chalks it up to the "tiempo"; times are a-changing.

That evening they all go to the disco where Manolo works. A woman catches Miguel's eye - it's actually the local pharmacist, Mónica (Rosa Romero). This disco is weird. There's your standard dance floor... and these odd steps where everyone chills. Juanjo has trouble getting ladies, and ends up alone at the disco. He imagines himself to be a Travolta-esque disco king. But in reality, the best he can do is jack off to skin mags. Manolo tries very hard to get it on with María, but it's a no-go until marriage. Toni goes with Sonia for a boat ride with Raúl (José Antonio Ceinos).

The gang is back to the beach. Marita (Jazmine Venturini) is completely naked on the beach, rubbing herself with suntan lotion. [There are kids and families around... was this okay?] Manolo and Juanjo are quick to lend her assistance, but it ends badly. Manolo is called out once again by María. Juanjo once again gets a raging hard-on and and has to run into the water to cool it down. Miguel is still in hot pursuit of Mónica (Rosa Romero), the pharmacist that caught Miguel's eye at the disco. Mónica changes out of her pharmacist uniform, not knowing Miguel is watching. Lynn Endersson plays herself, a movie diva. Juanjo watches her being filmed from across the pool at the hotel. The scene involves her being strangled in the pool by another actor. Juanjo imagines himself jumping in to save her; carrying her unconscious from the pool. However, as reality plays out, it's Jaunjo who needs the rescuing. Lynn is curious about this nerd who thought so much of her to come to her aid (even though it was just a movie, and he is clearly a total idiot). Juanjo is actually able to take the actress out on a date, and they have sex in the hotel.

Miguel plays a cheesy song on his guitar, and we get a medley of scenes showing how each of the three sailors is making out with women. Toni is still in that weird dynamic with Raúl and Sonia (who seems to never be fully clothed). Manola wakes up in the morning to see quite a sight: Elisa getting into her bikini. A rather problematic scene: Manolo sneaks in through the bedroom window, and with María still asleep (!) pulls down her panties and humps her! After hours at the disco, Manolo is basically sexually assaulted by Marita. Everyone wants a piece of Manolo. First María, then Marita, and now Elisa. Another amazing nude scene from Sonia Blanca as she throws herself at Manolo. The fifteen days are up, and it's time to say goodbye to the three sailors. Elisa, Manolo and María wave to them as they depart on a bus. It ends with Miguel laughing at Juanjo's ludicrous tale that he had sex with actress Lynn Endersson. THE END
