Sorceress (1995)

Linda Blair and Julie Strain star in this film about witchcraft and love triangles.

The movie was also called Temptress and Temptress II.

The movie starts off with a bang as we see a nude Julie Strain as Erica, doing an occult incantation.  She wants her husband to get a big promotion at the law firm.

Erica is doing a spell to kill Amelia's (Linda Blair) husband, Howard so that her husband will get the promotion.   It wrecks his car, but only paralyzes him from the waist down.

Erica's husband Larry (Larry Poindexter) comes home to find her doing this crazy witchcraft stuff.

Larry and Eric get in a big fight, ending with Erica falling over the balcony to her death.

With Erica out of the picture, one of Larry's co-workers, Carol (Rochelle Swanson) moves in on Larry.

But Larry keeps having visions of his dead wife - like she's haunting him.

Maria (Toni Naples) was Larry's maid, and the one that taught Eric the ways of witchcraft.   She returns to plead with him to listen to her.

Larry goes apeshit for a moment and almost rapes her.  I guess he's got some inner demons to work through.

Carol has a dream that night of Erica and Maria having hot lesbian sex.

In the dream, they invite her to join them.

When Carol emerges from the dream, she becomes obsessed with being like Erica - even dying her hair the same color as Erica's.

Why is Carol acting so strange? Because Amelia is also a witch.  To get revenge on Erica for paralyzing her husband and making him lose his big promotion.

Don (Lenny Juliano) and Kathy (Kristi Ducati) also work at the law firm.  Don is an annoying prick.

Don and Kathy come over to help paint Larry's new place.  They're amazed to find that Carol has dyed her hair.

I love the clothes Carol and Kathy have chosen to paint in.  So does Don.

Add this to the "girl on ladder" list.  Don is fixated on Carol's ass.

Maria returns to tell Larry the whole deal - how Amelia is using a necklace given to Carol in order to put her under this spell as revenge.

Paralyzed Howard confronts Amelia about her witchcraft shenanigans. She basically tells him to fuck off and ties him up.

I should mention Michael Parks, who gets top billing alongside Julie Strain and Linda Blair.  He plays a guy that is aware of Amelia's plans, but gets killed off pretty quick.  A rather irrelevant side story hardly worth mentioning.

Shower scene: Kathy has to get all that nasty paint off; so, she hops in the shower.

Carol, now fully under Amelia's control, grabs a candlestick and beats Kathy over the head.

Kathy provides some gratuitous nudity as she approaches her occult altar.

She then creeps up behind Larry and goes fucking berserk, stabbing him in the back.

Kathy unexpectedly returns to attack Carol who slices her across the chest.

Meanwhile at Amelia's place, Maria arrives and unties Howard.

Howard wastes his wife.  With Amelia dead, the spell is lifted.  Carol returns to normal.

Don and Kathy stare in horror at the carnage.  But things are back to normal... or are they?  The film ends with Larry having a vision of Erica.

I'd say this is about what you'd expect.  The women are gorgeous and frequently naked, and the story is pretty fun.  However, it never quite rises to its potential, maintaining a fairly "meh" vibe throughout.  A shame Linda Blair didn't go full "Savage Streets" and steal the show; also a shame Julie Strain dies at the beginning.  Still, I wouldn't say it under delivered; a passable late-night cable watch.

★★★★☆6/10
