RATING: ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ 3/10
REVIEW: A pretty paint-by-numbers erotic thriller, but distinctive in that it features a highly realistic "snuff film" suffocation scene. So, it's a bit darker than you'd bargain for. Otherwise, the nudity is pretty lightweight, and there's nothing else that would make this film memorable or unique in any way. It would have been a lot better if the producer hadn't cast herself as the central actress.
DOUBLE FEATURE - Killers with Cameras
Die Watching (1993) and The Beautiful, the Bloody, and the Bare (1964)
SYNOPSIS
Sheila (Melanie Good) shows up to a dark and seemingly deserted film set/warehouse. But there's one guy there - the creepy director, Michael Terrence (Christopher Atkins). Sheila auditions - ripping off her top. [Melanie Good played "The Tall Girl" in a couple episodes of Seinfeld. She also had a fairly big role in Howard Stern's Private Parts.] Michael creeps up behind her and throws a sack over her head.Sheila finds herself being videotaped, and then, finally killed. One of the detectives assigned to the case is Lewis (Tim Thomerson).
Next, we're taken to a video rental store. Michael enters the store with a suspicious package. Michael enters the store with a suspicious package. He sells the video tapes of his victims to the store's sleazy proprietor. (The tapes just contain the striptease - I think he keeps the murder footage for himself.) Nola Carlisle (Vali Ashton) on the right is Michael's neighbor. She's a successful artist holding a party. Ashton was the film's producer. Michael shows Nola his video recording studio. The next day, Nola is out with her friend Gabrielle (Erika Nann). Nola gets to know Michael better as he films her for a promotion for her art business. Detective Lewis and his partner Detective Barry (Carlos Palomino) take note of model Marie (Avalon Anders) entering Michael's studio. Michael starts to have flashbacks of his mother. But instead of killing Marie, he just freaks out, and she leaves. Nola shows her promotional video to Gabrielle, her agent, and her abusive boyfriend.
Afterwards, Gabrielle pays a visit to Nola's neighbor. She becomes intrigued by his video collection. Gabrielle wants to fool around. Michael proceeds to suffocate Gabrielle with a plastic bag. Michael brings the Gabrielle tape to the video store. Michael and Nola sleep together. She learns that this guy has some real issues. He's haunted by an incident from his childhood. He was taping his father in the bedroom who's having an affair with two chicks. His mother shows up... she grabs a gun and kills him and herself. Micheal's been fucked up ever since. Nola gets wise to Michael's murdering ways, leaving him no choice but to tie her up and kill her. But the detectives arrive in the nick of time. They chase him to the top of a building, which he jumps off to his death. THE END
